Third Annual "Fresh from the Islands" Harvest Supper 2009
Our first Harvest Supper was a huge success, the second was even bigger, and we look forward to doing it all over again in 2010! Stay posted for updates on the date and location of our 2010 Harvest Supper.

“Real Food for Real People" was the theme of our first "Fresh from the Islands" Harvest Supper, hosted by the Luxton Station Market Society. Diners enjoyed a traditional harvest menu prepared from locally-grown foods in this family-oriented celebration of agriculture on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.  The harvest celebration was designed to be affordable for families, and to demonstrate that eating locally-grown food is a good thing, for the environment and for your own enjoyment!

The event is also a fund-raiser for the Goldstream Station Market.

What is a “Fresh from the Islands” supper?

  The IFA logo

The idea of the “Fresh from the Islands” diet was conceived by Bill Code, former President of the Island Farmers’ Alliance (IFA), as the islands’ version of the popular “100-Mile Diet”, in promoting consumer support for farmers and producers on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. At present, less than 10% of the food we consume is grown or produced on the islands.

In support of agriculture on the islands, we use all foods grown and produced here on the islands in our harvest supper, including island-grown cranberries (sauce) and Saskatoon berries (pie)!
